Obituary of Mrs. Viola Lillian (Swart) Spear in the Jamestown Evening Journal, Page 6, February 7, 1916.
Ashville, Feb. 7.— Mrs. Viola L. Spear, who died near here Jan. 30, 1916, was a daughter of the late Rev. Clemence David and Emily Roxanna Swart, and born near Ashville, N.Y., Oct. 19, 1872. Mrs. Spear was one of the charter members of the Frewsburg United Brethren church; was also a graduate of Sugar Grove seminary, class of ’97. She was married to Karl E. Spear at Conewango Oct. 11, 1899, and to them were born four children, one of whom died in infancy. The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the U. B. church at Conewango, of which she was a member, Rev. E. W. Matteson officiating. There were many beautiful flowers, tokens of the love and esteem in which she was held. Music was furnished by a quartet. The bearers were C. C. Swart, Alfred Swart, Lafayette Swart, George G. Swart, H. L. Swart, and Martin C. Eddy. Burial was in Conewango cemetery. She is survived by her husband, one son, Wilton, two little daughters, Leola and Anna; her mother Mrs. E. R. Swart of Watts Flats; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Brock, and Mrs. Edyth Morley of Albion, Pa., and Mrs. Eugenia Eddy of Panama, besides many other relatives and friends.
