Nellie Josephine White Grossman is the 5th great granddaughter of William White and Suzannah White (Nee: Fuller) who came over on the Mayflower in 1620 and eventually settled in Plymouth. William and Suzannah White's son, Peregrine, was born on the Mayflower when it was docked at Cape Cod Bay awaiting for the passenger to find the colony in Plymouth to settle.

Nellie Josephine White Grossman is the daughter of Elias Alkire White and Almira Story Layton White. Elias Alkire White is the son of Jacob White. Jacob White is the son of Samuel White. Samuel White and Alexander White were brothers.

Nellie (White) Grossman wrote the following which she read at the White Family Reunion in 1926:

"The ancestors that we represent here today in our reunion were two brothers, Alexander and Samuel White. Just what state they were born is not definitely known, but inclined to think New Jersey. In 1804 Samuel White and his infant family came to Ohio and settled on a track of land now known as "Big "Run" Southwest of Green Lawn. His wife was Jane Stewart a member of a prominent New Jersey family. With their three children they drove overland and reaching Franklinton concluded to settle in its vicinity. Proceeding three miles southwest the pioneers erected their cabin and began housekeeping. Three persons by the name of White came over in the Mayflower from New England, Johan and Susanna White settled in Massachusetts where some of the descendants still reside. William White did not like the colony and later moved to what is now Fredrick, MD. His sons settled largely in Virginia and became large land owners. Our branch became the famous White family of Maryland. An uncle of Samuel White, raised and equipped a company during the Revolutionary War and tendered their services to the colonies. He was a warm personal friend of General Washington and served with him during the entire war. After being mustered out of service he went to Virginia where he taught school. Although the Descendant of Samuel White are scattered all over the union some of them filling places of honor and trust.

The reunion of 1898 was held just south of Old Union Church were Samuel White, in 1803, erected his cabin and reared a family of nine children, namely Stewart, Jack, George, Jacob, Alexander, Rebecca, Sarah, and Elizabeth. The first reunion of the descendants of Samuel White was held at the house of Aden Shade, 1897, an association was found and agreed to hold the reunion annually on the second Wednesday in August. Wilson White (not deceased) was the first President. Later the date was changed to the second Sunday in August. Up to the present day (twenty nine) reunions have been held certainly not to be forgotten by all who attended but remembered and let the name of the Whie Family and its ancestors go down in history in the year to come."
