"Mr. Frank Boykin died at the home of his son, Mr. J. W. Boykin, near Villula, Thursday afternoon. He was 81 years old [sic]. He had been in feeble health for a long time, and his death was not unexpected. He was once the treasurer of Bullock county, where he formerly resided, and made a faithful and efficient officer. He was a high-toned christian gentleman and good citizen."

Francis E. Boykin was a vice-president of the Buck Horn Club, a secessionist organizing group in Pike County, Alabama: Southern Advertiser, Dec. 7, 1860.
