Kawneer retiree loved baseball and hunting
Roger C. Mowery Sr., 69, of Hetlerville concluded his journey in this life peacefully Sunday, June 16, 2013, in his home.
Born in Hetlerville on March 28, 1944, he was a son of June McMurtrie Mowery Hall, Rupert, and the late Carl W. Mowery, who died March 4, 1995.
He graduated from Central Columbia High School in 1962.
He was employed for 16 years by Wise Potato Chip Co.; later by Berwick Forge, and subcontracted as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office. Most recently, he was employed by Kawneer, Bloomsburg, retiring at age 64.
Roger was a member of Forest Rangers Fire Company, Mifflinville. He loved baseball, especially the Phillies, and had coached Little League and Teener baseball in Mifflinville. He had played men's fast-pitch softball in the Berwick league, and was also an avid hunter.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Lisa Mowery, May 29, 1979; two brothers: Charles Mowery, June 2, 1948, and Robert M. "Bob" Mowery, Aug. 26, 2002.
Roger will be remembered by four children: Lori Mowery Savoy and husband Nuncio, Pittston; Roger C. Mowery Jr., Hetlerville; Brock Mowery, Lancaster; Britt Mowery, Leesburg, Va.; five grandchildren: Nuncio, Lily and Eden Savoy, Hailey and Max Mowery; sister: Judy Novak and husband Emil, Hetlerville; stepfather, William F. Hall, Rupert.
Roger was extremely proud of his kids and grandkids and he will forever be in our hearts.
He is entrusted to the care of the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, where services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Erwine, retired United Methodist minister, presiding. He will be laid to rest next to his daughter in the Mifflinville Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 6-9 p.m.
