Batavia - Mr. Howard John Coffey, Jr., age 51, a resident of Batavia since 1996, died suddenly on Monday, June 18, 2012 at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born August 27, 1960 in Rochester, a son of Howard John Sr. and Yvonne E. Burke Coffey of Chapmansboro, Tennessee.

A very gifted drummer, Jack, as he was known to all. He was awarded the gold medal for drumming in New York State at age 14. This competition was judged by Ed Shaughnessey, longtime drummer for Johnny Carson's Tonight Show Band.

He will be remembered as soft-spoken, yet funny, and was kind to those who he came into contact with. Jack enjoyed trains and animals, especially horses. His family remembers his talents as a puppeteer, comedian and impersonator.

Surviving along with his parents are his brother, Edward Coffey, Sr. of Chapmansboro, Tennessee; nephew, Edward Coffey, Jr. of Tennessee; niece, Tanya Coffey of Dallas, Texas; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kevin and Krissa Coffey and Donovan and Jillian Rojas and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jack's family would like to extend a special thank you to Eyvonne at DePaul for her kindness and care.

There are no prior calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Jack's name may be made to De Paul, 1931 Buffalo Road, Rochester, New York 14624 or online at www.depaul.org/support.aspx.
