John Walter "Johnny" Brown was born February 27, 1908, in Meckling, Clay County, South Dakota, to John "Jack" Brown (Find A Grave Memorial# 115537080) and Elvina May (Anderson) Brown (Find A Grave Memorial# 114666285).

John Walter Brown's siblings were: Pearl DeEtta (Brown) Lewis, Ida May (Brown) Gray (Find A Grave Memorial# 112970610), Ernest Leslie "Ole" Brown (Find A Grave Memorial# 76394280), and Sidney E. Brown (Find A Grave Memorial# 74050790).

John Walter Brown married Alma M. Eisenmann on February 5, 1944, at Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota. John was 35 and Alma was 21 years old when they married. Alma's residence was Luverne, Rock County, Minnesota, and John's residence was Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, when they married. They resided at Sioux Falls before moving to Vermillion about 1 ½ years before John's death.

John Walter Brown died Tuesday, June 4, 1963, in Dakota Hospital at Vermillion, South Dakota, at the age of 55 after a long illness. Funeral services for John W. Brown, 55, were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 7, 1963, at the Elmore-Wagner Funeral Home in Vermillion. Reverend Austin Shelton officiated. Survivors of John besides the widow included three sons, Walter of Sioux Falls, LeRoy and Larry, both of Vermillion; two daughters, Miss Laura Brown of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. Audrey (Brown) Falk of Ogden, Utah, and his mother Mrs. Elvina Kluin of Vermillion; three brothers, Ernest and Sidney Brown, and Donald Buol, all of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Lester Gray (Ida) of Vermillion, Mrs. Pearl Matteucci of Chicago, and Mrs. Dorothy (Buol) Curry in California; and two grandchildren.
