Ane Benedicte Hansen Nelson
aka Ane Benedicte Peterson Nelson

Mrs August Nelson, Sr. Passes Away at Home
Highly Respected Pioneer Lady Died Monday
At Age of 90.

The rows of sturdy men and women to [who] so bravely pioneered this part of the country, went through all the hardships of bringing the virgin soil under cultivation and through all the stress and bloody experiences of battles with the red skinned natives, are getting thinner and thinner. The grim reaper is calling them home to the great beyond one after another.
One of those pioneers, one of the oldest and most respected, went to her reward Monday evening, when Mrs Ane Benedicte widow of Augustenus Nelson, died at the ripe age of ninety years, mourned by eight surviving children, 34 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and a large circle of friends.

Mrs Nelson, Sr, was born in Sarup, Denmark, November 6, 1833. At the age of about twenty she embraced the gospel and emigrated to Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City on October 5, 1854.
While on the Atlantic ocean she became the wife of Augustenus Nelson. The young couple came to Richfield to make their home in 1862 and were driven out from here during the Black Hawk disorders. After the Indian wars they returned to Richfield again in 1876, residing here ever since.

The descendants of Mrs Nelson number 125, she having been the mother of 12 children of whom four preceded her in death. Eight children and seventy-six grand and great grandchildren are surviving.
The surviving children are Mrs Mina Hansen of Provo; August Nelson of Richfield; Mrs Mary Christiansen of Richfield; Mrs W E [Caroline] Thurber of Richfield; Mrs George [Refina] Callaway of Richfield; J H [Joseph] Nelson of Richfield; Mrs Rinda Dormitzer of Los Angeles; and Le Roy Nelson of Salt Lake City.
Funeral services over the remains will be held in the Second ward chapel Thursday at 2 o'clock p.m. Arrangements for the services are not completed yet.
