Daniel was the son and second child of Charles and Ellen E. O'Donnell. Daniel's mother died in the Influenza Pandemic of 1918. In 1930 Daniel and his father resided with William and Ellen (McCloskey) Krejci. Ellen Krejci was the niece of Charles O'Donnell. William and Ellen raised Daniel after his father's death. Daniel attended Salesianum H.S., Archmere Academy and the University of Delaware. He died in a plane crash in Australia while serving in the armed forces during World War II.

Daniel, who resided at 502 North Clayton Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was killed in the "Line Of Duty" when his plane crashed due to a non-battle incident during the war.

He had served in the Air Corps for four years and two months at the time of his death.

He is interred somewhere in Delaware.
