Mr. Jimmie Leroy Powell, 67, of Dewey, died at 10:53 P.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Powell will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Bluestem Baptist Church in Dewey with Mr. Chuck Kerns officiating. Interment will be in the Dewey Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post 105. Funeral services and interment are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Bluestem Baptist Church Building Fund, 327 E. Durham, Dewey, Oklahoma, 74029.
Mr. Powell was born at Pawhuska, Oklahoma on December 15, 1945 the son of Lee Roy and Imogene (Thompson) Powell. He grew up in the Independence, Kansas, Hurd, Oklahoma, Elk City, Kansas and Copan until moving to Dewey where he graduated from Dewey High School in 1963. He was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company service stations until entering the U.S. Army on August 23, 1965. He received his Honorable Discharge on August 22, 1969 and was then employed with the Phillips Petroleum Company Credit Card Division in Kansas City. He transferred with Phillips to Bartlesville in 1970. He was married to Glenda Maxine Cole on August 8, 1970 in Nowata and they made their home briefly in Bartlesville until moving to their current home north of Dewey. Mr. Powell was employed with Phillips as a computer operator until 1994 and later was employed as a computer operator with Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his granddaughter. He was a member of the Bluestem Baptist Church in Dewey, the National Rifle Association and a past member of the American Legion.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife Glenda Powell of the home, two daughters, Andrea Jeanine Powell of Broken Arrow, Amanda Lynn Powell of Bartlesville and one son, Andrew Lee Powell and his wife, Kathy of Dewey, two sisters, Colleen Powell of Dewey and Elaine Rush of Bartlesville, a granddaughter, Addison Powell of Dewey and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Billy Wayne Powell and a grandson, Garrett Wayne Harrison.
