Obituary of Marvin Davis Jr.
Marvin 'Davis Jr. was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the early morning hours to his -proud parents Marvin and "Billie "Davis.”He was the first boy of nine children. In 1958 his parents moved to San "Bernardino, California, and later moved to San "Diego, California.
Marvin received his formal education in the San "Diego Unified School 'District, where he was involved in "R.O.T.C. Marvin loved solving problems; he was a great mathematician. Marvin enjoyed lifting weights, drawing and working with his hands. He took great pride in refinishing, making the old things look new. He also did construction work with his father.
Marvin was a member of the Antioch under the leadership of Supt. A."D. Cooper where he sang in the sunshine band choir. On occasion you could find him witnessing to the neighborhood children. One of his favorite pastimes was preaching with Steve Cooper. They would preach to each other.
'When his father was called to pastorship, Marvin played the drums for the church. His favorite song to play was "Going Up yonder". As a member of the Mason Memorial Church of God in Christ, he would faithfully support the church both with his presence and financially. Me adored and highly respected his mother and father for their perseverance in the ministry.
Marvin met and married Shiela Taylor on March 4, 1978. To this union three children were born. Marvin was a loving and devoted father.
On Monday, January 15, 1996, Marvin departed this walk from life. A promising baseball career cut short by a bullet. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving parents "Elder Marvin 'Davis, Sr. and Missionary "Billie "Davis; six sisters, Schenetta Cooper and Sabrina "Davis of San "Diego, California, Marva Owens of Atlantis 'Beach, Florida, Tonya Cody and 'Donna 'Davis of "Virginia "Beach, Virginia, and Teresa Ann McMillan of "North Carolina; four Brothers, Adrain "Davis, "Kenneth "Davis, and "Paul "Davis of San "Diego, California, and Marvin "Davis, Jr. of North Carolina; a dear friend, Angela Morris of San "Diego, California; six children, Marvin "Davis III, Angel "Davis, LaTonya "Davis, Marvina "Davis, Charzel "Davis and Mercedes 'Davis; two stepchildren, 'William "Barton Thomas Morris and Shontay Haynes, all of San 'Diego; three grandchildren, Marquine Cantu, Ali Hasan and Trevion Hasan of San 'Diego, California; four uncles, Joseph 'Davis, Leo C. "Davis, Herbert 'Davis, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and James 'Davis of the "Bay Area; five aunts, 'Early Mae 'Reed of San 'Bernardino, California, "Ernistine "Davis of Sacramento, California, "Dorothy "Bradford, "Eulila "Davis and Verdie "B. "Davis, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 25 nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
