Graduated in 1877 from Washington University School of Medicine and practiced general medicine. He and Mary were prominent members of St. Louis society.

Per his 23 Sep 1897 passport application (age 42), he was 5-10 with blue eyes and gray hair. He had a medium forehead, straight nose, small mouth and fair complexion on an oval face.

In late 1897, he led a party of ten St. Louis residents in a search for gold in Venezuela, which lasted several months.

Died of chronic myocarditis (which he had for eight years), contributed to by angina pectoris.
