Joseph Mansfield Gentry Joe passed away on June 12, 2013. Mr. Gentry was born on August 5, 1919 to George Mansfield and Florence Shockley Gentry in Atlanta, Georgia.

He graduated from Tech High and attended Georgia Tech. Mr. Gentry served in World War II with the 341st Bombardment Squadron, U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy and received several medals including the bronze star. After the war he moved to Fitzgerald, Georgia where he met and married Doris Lee Williams. They moved to Wilmington, N.C, in 1946 with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. In 1960 they and their 2 children were transferred to Jacksonville.

In 1963 he joined National Castings Corporation as field product engineer. After his retirement he continued to consult for the company until he was 80 years old. Joe was an active member of Southside Baptist Church where he served as teacher, department director and ordained deacon. He was a life member of the Westside Club where he was a frequent speaker and mentor to many. Every Monday for over 30 years he enjoyed playing poker with friends at Beau Rivage.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters. He is survived by Doris, his wife of 67 years; his children Ann (Bill) Kemp and Clay (Tesha) Gentry; his grandsons Jay (Darby) Wilkerson, Gentry (Jennifer) Wilkerson, Paul (Kelly) Gentry, Carter Gentry and Griffin Gentry; his great grandchildren Jake, Reagan and Amelia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held Sunday, June 16 from 5 - 7 pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. The funeral service will be Monday, June 17 at 2pm at Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207 with Reverend Gary Webber officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
