Rev. Glenn Tanner, Jr., age 71 of Old Hwy. 60 East Hayesville formerly of Blairsville, went to be with his Lord on Saturday June 8, 2013 from his home, following an extended illness. Rev. Tanner was born on Nov. 5, 1941 in Cherokee County, NC., the son of the late Glenn W. Tanner, Sr. and the late Irene Coker Tanner. Glenn became an ordained Minister on July 5, 1975 and over his ministry he served as Pastor in many churches in North Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas. He also did Mission work in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ohio and North Carolina. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Scott Tanner and three sisters, Mary Jo Shariff, Evelyn Beavers, Helen Fisher and Marie Anselmo. Rev. Tanner was a member of Mt. Grace Church.
Surviving Rev. Tanner are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Martha Owens Tanner of Hayesville, five daughters and three sons-in-law, Paula and P.D. Herron of Oklahoma, Melinda Sanchez of Hayesville, Karen and Sam Duncan Jr. of Murphy, Sharon Angell of OK., Carla and Sam Beck of Hayesville, five sisters, Charlotte Almond of Murphy, Shirley Helms, Billie Jo Cone, Brenda Shephard and Donna Wicker all of Burlington, NC. Twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Monday June 10, 2013 at 3 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Paul Ray Morgan and Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Special music was presented by Dinah Cook. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, Mike and Jeff Cook, Jammy Anderson, Paul Tanner, Kevin Herron, Tony Worley and Perry Tanner. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Francis and Arvil Cook, Bill Ritz and all preacher brethren. Interment followed in the Pine Log Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m.
