ARCOLA MAN COMMITS SUICIDE
----------
ALBERT M'LANE SENDS BULLET THROUGH HEAD
----------
Loss of Arcola Postmastership Is Given as Cause of Act

Arcola, Ill., Nov. 28. — Albert McLane, former postmaster of Arcola and a veteran of the World War, died Tuesday afternoon at his home here from a self-inflicted bullet wound in the head. He lived about half an hour after the fatal shot was fired. The bullet entered the right temple and passed out through the left temple.

Son Find Father Dying.

Mr. McLane returned home about 11:40 Tuesday morning from the Murphy garage, where he had been employed temporarily for about three weeks. After drinking a cup of coffee he left the house and went into an outbuilding, where he shot himself with a .38 caliber revolver which he had borrowed from a neighbor the night before. Mr. McLane had been appointed janitor at the Douglas county jail in Tuscola at a monthly salary of $75, but he informed his brother-in-law, Elmer H. Pfeifer, Monday night, at the latter's home here, that he could not afford to accept the job. As janitor he would have begun his duties next Monday.

Native of Gays.

Mr. McLane had lived in Arcola most of his life. He came to this city in early manhood from Gays, where he was born 51 years ago. He was succeeded by Joseph Speelman as postmaster May 13, 1934.

Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Sue McNally McLane, and eight children, Mary, Katheryn, John, Frank, Margaret, Tom, Robert and James, all at home. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. C. W. Haskell of Mattoon, Mrs. Hannah Gillespie of Chicago and Mrs. Bert Gross of Wanatah, Ind.

Mr. McLane volunteered for service during the World War, being over the draft age, and served until the close of the war. Besides being postmaster he served for a time as president of Arcola Chamber of Commerce.
