Anne Marie Ball was born into eternal life on Monday, April 15, 2013. She entered this earthly life on February 20, 1951, born to the late William and Marie (Murtaugh) Ball in Niagara Falls, NY.
Anne Marie graduated from Madonna High School in 1969. She earned a BS Degree Summa cum laude in Biology from Rosary College in 1973. After this Anne entered the Sisters of Saint Francis of Stella Niagara. While a member of this community she taught 8th grade in Ohio. Anne Marie also worked as a Nursing Assistant in their infirmary and at the former St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus, OH. She pursued a BS in Nursing from Niagara University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1979. Anne worked as an RN in Ohio and in Buffalo until 1984. She then pursued her MS in nursing as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at SUNY @ Buffalo graduating in 1986. While studying, Anne Marie worked part-time as a Campus Minister at Daemen College.
Her Nurse Practitioner career took her to many and varied job opportunities in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Anne was employed by Buffalo General Hospital, Millard Fillmore Hospitals and Buffalo State College. She also worked for the former local practice of Doctors Robert Brennen and James Moore. Anne Marie was a skilled Nurse Practitioner and devoted to her patients. She had a keen diagnostic ability. Anne was certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She was a former member of Sigma Theta Tau and the Nurse Practitioner Association of Western New York. Even though she formally left religious life, Anne remained active with the community at Stella Niagara. She served on the Board of Francis Center, offered her musical talents through guitar and voice at many special liturgies at Stella Niagara. Her love for the Sisters and their mission was unwavering as was their support of her. Anne Marie was also known for her keen sense of humor, gentle smile and generosity. She loved to give unique gifts that were special to those in her life. Anne will be missed by her family, many friends, former co-workers, wonderful neighbors and members of the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara.
In 2005, Anne Marie was diagnosed with Cancer. Once she completed treatment, she volunteered at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the Chemotherapy Unit. Anne wanted to be a visible sign of hope to those who were also battling this disease.
Anne Marie is survived by one brother, Thomas Ball of Niagara Falls, NY; one aunt; and several cousins.
