Civil War Service (Union): Enlisted 15 Feb 1865 in Grafton, WV; Company I, 17th WV Infantry Regiment. Born in Fayette County, PA. Age 37. Blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, height 5' 8.5". Occupation: Farmer. Mustered out: 30 Jun 1865; rank: Sergeant.

1st Wife: Alcinda Richardson (1832 PA-1863 WV)
Son: William Gillespie Osborn (1861 WV-1945 WV)
Son: Campbell Osborn (1863 WV-1863 WV)
*Alcinda died of consumption 1 month after her son, Campbell, died at 1 day old. Her son, William, continued living with his father and stepmother, Susan, in the 1870 Census.

Son: Cuthbert Alexander Osborn (1877 WV-1942 NJ)
*Her father was William Alexander Harrison, the 1st WV Supreme Court Justice appointed when WV entered statehood in 1863.

*After her husband's death, she returned to WV and married Edward W.
Atkins in 1891. He died in 1902. After his death, Mary and her children
moved to San Francisco, California. In her later years, she was living with
her son Fleming and his family. Mary died in California; her burial site is unknown.
