Ross W. Jackson Jr., 94, of Lubbock died peacefully June 12, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 22, 1919, in Dexter, N.M. to Ross W. Jackson Sr. and Sarah McMillan Jackson. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he married Thelma Barnett of Evening Shade, Ark., in 1946. Moving to Lubbock with their first daughter in 1949, Ross joined the Carpenters Union and worked for more than thirty years as superintendent for Bundock Construction Company. He was an avid craftsman and member of South Plains Woodcarvers of Lubbock. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church throughout his adult life. Ross was predeceased by his parents; brothers and sisters; grandson, Matthew Grant Benson; and son in-law, Walt Johnson. He will be greatly missed by survivors including his wife, Thelma of Lubbock; children, Carolyn Benson (Glenn) of Lubbock, Sherron Johnson of Levelland, Susan McAlexander (David) of Lubbock, Perry Jackson (Richard Hudson) of Houston; grandchildren, Michael Benson (Cindy) of Lubbock, Mark Benson (Tammey) of Lubbock, Cara Benson of Lubbock, Shawna Gibbins (Jody) of Lubbock, Andy Johnson (Anne) of Austin, Ross Johnson (LaeTitia) of Midland, Amy McAlexander of Waco; great-grandchildren, Cortney, Garrett, and Mason Benson, Zachery, Allison, Linzee, and Kegan Gibbins, McKinley Johnson; and cousin, Deen Jackson (Sandy) of Lubbock. Visitation will be held Friday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main St, Lubbock, TX 79401. Celebration of life, officiated by Rev. Doug Kirk and Rev. Joe Huddleston, will be on Saturday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in Sanders Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wolfforth First United Methodist Church, 102 Donald Preston Dr., Wolfforth, TX 79382.
