Myrtle was the daughter of Harwood E. O. Fish and Florence A. More. She graduated from Smith College in 1922, and would later receive the school's highest award of recognition--the Sophia Smith Medal. Myrtle was a social welfare professional and pioneer in the field of music therapy. She was a founder of the National Association of Music Therapy.

She married Harold C. Thompson on 12 Mar. 1923 in Roselle Park, Union Co., NJ. They had two daughters together.

Myrtle was also a classical pianist.
