Leon A. Roggen Sr., 80, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Orange City and Bella Vista, Ark., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity
Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Revs. Donald Lenderink and Leon Roggen Jr. officiating.
Burial will be prior to the service Saturday in West Lawn Cemetery.
Leon Arthur was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Hamilton, Mich., the son of the Rev. John A. and Jacquelina (De Haan) Roggen. When he was a teenager, the family moved to Maurice, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and graduated from Hope College in Holland, Mich.
On July 5, 1944, he married Edna Mae Blom in Maurice.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the South Pacific Theater. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict.
The couple made their home in Orange City, where he was a partner in Roggen and Ford Bookkeeping for many years. In 1992, they retired to Bella Vista, Ark. In August 2003, they moved to Tulsa.
He was a long-time member of Trinity Reformed Church and was currently a member of Christian Life Cathedral in Bentonville, Ark. He enjoyed being involved in church life, serving as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also active in the Gideon's and loved
serving his Lord above all things.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Edna; a son and his wife, the Rev. Leon Jr. and Pat Roggen of Niles, Mich.; three daughters and their husbands, Patti and Dr. Randy Ruisch of Des Moines, Renee and Matt Pride of Tulsa and Michele and Lt. Col. Doug Jackson of Edmond,
Okla.; 13 grandchildren. Matt, Chris and Sarah Roggen, Kim Welge, Ryan and Lindsay Ruisch, Kelley, Nicole and Taylor Pride, Tanner, Parker, Hunter and Carter Jackson; a great-granddaughter, Anna Welge; a brother and his wife, Ivan and Jane Roggen of Saginaw, Mich.; and three sisters, Ella Tellman of Holland, Mich, Margaret De Pree of Denver, Colo and Marian and her husband, Art McGilvia of Pella Iowa.
