In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters; Ruby Winifred (Thomas) Simpson, Attie Mae (Bennett) Cohron, and Frances Hill "Pinkie" (Laurence) Pendley and sons; Walton Leroy "Brother" (Bessie) Read and Ralph Rayburn (Rosa) Read, and Harold Leon "Mutt" (Joan) Read.
He was preceded in death in 1945 by his daughter, Signa Travis Read McCarty.
Shelby's siblings are Hubert Elmore Read, Zeecy Ethel Read Kelly, and Ivan Ballard Read.
