A. P. RASMUSSEN SUCCUMBS AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Funeral Services in Tabernacle Will Pay Tribute to Pioneer.
A. P. Rasmussen, 91, one of Richfield's well known pioneer residents, passed away at his home here Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Rasmussen was confined to his bed with illness only Monday morning, although his health had been slowly failing the past year or two.
A number of years ago Mr. Rasmussen was a councilman for the City of Richfield, and he served as secretary and treasurer of the Richfield Irrigation Canal company since 1889, a position which he held at the time of his death.
It was always a source of pleasure to have Mr. Rasmussen call at The Reaper office to attend to business for the irrigation company, not only because of his kindly disposition, but because it was interesting to see the accuracy and the firm and neat handwriting in which the elderly man made his reports for the company. He has been missed during the past year when he was unable to make the long walks from his home to the office.
Mr. Rasmussen was born October 14, 1841, in Tooraby, Denmark. At the age of 19 he joined the L. D. S. church, and was called on a mission in his native land in which capacity he served for three years. He immigrated to Utah, arriving here April 10, 1864. For a year and one-half he lived at Brigham City. From there he moved to Cottonwood, and later to Sanpete county. In 1871 he came to Richfield, where he has since resided.
Mr. Rasmussen married Karen Marie Olsen in the St. George temple in 1877. Mrs. Rasmussen passed away a number of years ago.
Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. J. L. Christensen, Miss Sena Rasmussen, Mrs. E. J. Duggan. A. O. Rasmussen, and J. L. Rasmussen, all of Richfield, and Edward Rasmussen, of Salt Lake. Surviving also are 32 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday in the Sevier stake tabernacle.
