Frances (Smith) Hamrick, 77, of Gaffney, SC, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 after living many years with the complications of Parkinsons Disease. She was the devoted wife of Wylie L. Hamrick for 56 years.

Surviving with her husband, are their three sons and daughters-in-law, Lyman and Lee Hamrick, Wardlaw and Gail Hamrick, and Bob and Kim Hamrick, all of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Elliott and Sarah Hamrick, Catherine Hampton, Cameron and Addison Hamrick, Robert and Travis Hamrick; one grandson-in-law, Kevin Hampton; one granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Hamrick; a nephew, Bill Manning of Roswell, GA; a niece, Barbara M. Bear Wallace of Montgomery, AL; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Beattie of Greenville, SC. She leaves behind several current, loving and devoted caregivers and several previous caregivers that assisted her during her illness.

Frances was born in Greenville, SC, and was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus Wardlaw Smith and Frances (Poole) Smith; and a sister, Belle (Smith) Manning of Greenville.

She was a graduate of Greenville High School and Holton Arms College in Washington, DC and a member of The Junior League of Greenville. Frances moved to Gaffney with her husband in 1950 and became a mother and homemaker. After marrying in 1948, they subsequently lived in New Bedford, MA, and Clemson, SC while Wylie completed his textile education.

Frances was a member of First Baptist Church in Gaffney, where she was a longstanding secretary of the Fidelas Sunday School class and an active participant in the Carrie Louise WOM Circle. She enjoyed having her family sit together on Sundays while attending worship and afterwards having dinner together.

She was a supportive and loving wife. She reared her sons with devotion and always referred to their wives as her daughters. Each of her grandchildren was especially dear to her.

She enjoyed the game of bridge and belonged to two bridge clubs. While enjoying many other social activities, she treasured the time with family during the many birthdays, anniversaries and holidays that they celebrated as a family.

Her acts of kindness towards family and friends when they were sick or grieving is one of the many things for which she will be remembered. She was a loving and gentle lady and will be greatly missed.

The family received friends Friday, June 24, 2005 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and immediately following the funeral until 2:00 p.m. at Wylies and Frances home.

The funeral service was at Gaffney First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005. The Rev. Joel Sellers officiated. Entombment was in Oakland Cemetery.

Her five grandsons and Kevin Hampton served as pallbearers for their Mimi. Honorary pallbearers were the Fidelas and Hopper Sunday School classes.

Memorials could be made to The American Parkinsons Association, Hospice Care of South Carolina, First Baptist Churchs Faithful to the Vision Fund; or a charity of ones choice.
