WALTER A. YANCY, 84, WALL STREET INVESTMEN T BANKER AND WORLD WAR II ACE NAVAL FIGHTER PILOT Walter A. (Bill) Yancy, who spent forty years on Wall Street as an Investment Banker and was a decorated WWII pilot in the U.S. Navy, died in his sleep on Monday, December 18th in Vero Beach, Florida. Growing up during the Great Depression in rural Tyler, Texas, he put himself through engineering school and graduated as a pilot and officer in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the Pacific on the aircraft carriers USS Bataan and USS San Jacinto, flying daily missions over Japan. He was shot down over Tokyo Bay, was rescued to fly again, to earn several medals and win victory over Japan. After the war, he settled in Scarsdale, New York where he and his wife, Doris Marian Phelps, raised four children. He had a forty year career on Wall Street as an Investment Banker, and was a member of the Bankers Club and the Municipal Bond Club of New York. He was President of the Scarsdale Golf Club, a member of Sankaty Head Golf Club on Nantucket, Mass, the Windsor Golf Club of Vero Beach, Florida and the Nevis Golf Club of Nevis, West Indies. He leaves his wife of sixtytwo years, Doris Phelps Yancy, his brother Charles Maris Yancy of Texarkana, Texas; four children, Linda Yancy Gammill Kidsley of Vero Beach, Florida, Charles Phelps Yancy of Tampa, Florida, Elizabeth Doris Yancy of Mill Valley, California, and Bruce Ward Yancy of Nantucket, Massachusetts and seven grandchildren; Elizabeth Gammill Amore, Ross MacNair Gammill, Christopher Alan Kidsley, Ashley Brooke Yancy, Blaire Alexandra Yancy, Courtney Amelia Yancy, and Julia Phelps Yancy. A memorial service will be held at the Windsor Chapel on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 12:00 Noon, at Windsor, Vero Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 988 Woodcock Road, Suite 200, Orlando, FL 32803 or Hospice of Vero Beach, Florida.
