Rudolph Stanley-Brown was born in Mentor, OH and later moved with his parents to NYC. He first studied at Yale University and later studied architecture at Columbia University. He moved to Cleveland in 1920 to begin working with his uncle, Abram Garfield. He was a partner in the architectural firm of Garfield, Stanley-Brown, Harris and Robinson from 1930-1934. Shortly thereafter he moved to Washington, D. C.

He was married to Katherine Schermerhorn Oliver on June 7, 1922.

He died in Augusta, GA on February 8, 1944.

Mr. Stanley-Brown was a grandson of President James A. Garfield.
