Temple Windle

Silent in Death.
At one o'clock this morning passed away from this earth to that happy home beyond, one of Valparaiso's most worthy and respected citizens, Mr. Temple Windle, aged 61 years, who has been a resident of the Vale for 32 years and has been an active business man, loved, honored and respected by all that knew him in social and business circles.

On New Year day Mr. Windle felt the first effects of the disease that caused his death -- a carbuncle on his neck, which gave him no uneasiness except the pain inflicted by such a troublesome visitor. A week ago to-day he was confined to his bed, but no serious danger was apprehended, and his relatives and friends thought he would soon be out again mingling with those he had met so often. But that dreadful disease, blood poison, took possession of his stalwart frame, and now all that is left for friends to view is the earthly tenement of clay silent in the still embrace of death, while the soul has sought its maker in the far beyond, to meet at the last day his own and beloved ones that mourn his departure, with all his kin and kindred.

Among those who will follow him to his last resting place on earth are his beloved wife, his son, W. G. Windle, and his daughter, Mrs. Mary Crosby, and numerous friends who will pay their last respects to the honored dead. Up to the time of going to press arrangements for the funeral had not been completed, but the burial will probably take place on Sunday, January 18. Requiescar in pace.

Temple Windle

In Memory of Temple Windle.

Died, in Valparaiso, Indiana, January 16, 1885, at one o'clock a. m., Mr. Temple Windle, aged 61 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Again amid the busy activities of our lives wer are caused to feel the certainty of our mortality. Death has removed from our midst one honored and respected by all who knew him, in the person of Temple Windle. Sixty-two years was the span of his life, but with a constitution robust and unimpaired by sickness a longer duration was expected, thus showing how uncertain are all our calculations of longevity. His death, therefore, preceded by a brief illness, was a great surprise to the entire community as well as his own immediate family. This bereavement in an especial manner calls for sympathy in that it so quickly follows the death of a beloved daughter (Mrs. Seth Eason.) The family circle so long complete, united in such tender love and appreciation, is now sadly broken by the relentless hand that spares neither age nor youth, the ripened graces nor the buds of opening promise.

Temple Windle was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, on the 22d of January, 1823, emigrating in 1840, when a youth of seventeen, with his father's family to Laporte county, Indiana, and there immediate relatives still reside who were present at the funeral service. In the month of November, 1847, he was married to Sarah Jessup, and continued a citizen of Laporte county until 1852, when he removed to Valparaiso. This has ever been his home; the scene of all business activities in which he was engaged. In the span of a generation which marked his residence he has seen the growth of Valparaiso from a small village to its present size and business standing. In his death those who have journeyed with him feel that another has dropped out of the ranks that time is so rapidly thinning. Mr. Windle merited and sustained the respect of the community both in his private and official relations through continued years of public trust. He was a man of tender susceptibilities, ever ready to respond to calls of beneficence as presented by others, and in his private contact with the afflicted and distressed disposed to quietly and continuously to extend a helping hand. There are many who will have reason to miss him as they remember his generous and thoughful care in the years that are past. Regretfully as friends and neighbors we say farewell, and yet how little can we appreciate the void that now exists in the saddened home, which to him in life was a place sweet and beautiful and ahllowed by tenderest affection.

The sympathy and prayer of every heart surely is theirs, that they may have strength to sustain them under the great bereavement that has fallen upon them; remembering that sooner or later sorrow will come into our lives, when we also will need the appreciative ministry of sympathizing friends.

A FRIEND.
