Born Dec 22, 1908, Birth Certificate #18233 shows Joseph being born in Philadelphia PA. Joseph stated he was kidnapped as an infant at an early age by an Italian family, taken to Italy and raised in Campomanfoli, San Georgio, Salerno, Italy. He loved to sing all the old Italian songs like a street singer.
He came to the U.S. at the age of 18. He married Emma West of Gunzenhausen, Mittlefranken, Bavaria, Germany in 1933 AND 1934 both times in NY (They waited for wife Emma's sister Lina to come from Germany to be the Godmother of their only child, Norma b.July 1934). Joseph and Emma operated the Alexander Beauty Shop on Alexander Ave in the Bronx, NY. Some of the client's were older actresses living in gaslight homes (even in the 1950's), and Whitey Ford's (NY Yankees) Aunt. After Emma's death (Aug 1974), Joseph lived with his daughter (Norma Karpiscak, her husband John and their family) in Belle Mead, NJ. Joseph passed to join his wife on Nov 6, 1977 while at home. A funeral was held at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, Monmouth Jct. NJ. He is buried alongside his wife in the Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick, NJ.
