Kathryn Ripple Perryman Powell passed away on June 13, 2013 after a brief stay at Forsyth Hospital. ‘Kitty', the youngest of five brothers and sisters, was born on August 2, 1917 to Henry Richard King Perryman and Lelia Thomasine Ripple. Kitty spend her entire life in Arcadia, in the family home (also built in 1917) on Enterprise Road.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Roberts. The family will receive friends following the service.

Kitty married Merle A. Powell Sr. from Strayhorn, Mississippi while he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. They celebrated over 33 years of marriage together prior to his death in 1979.

Left to cherish Kitty's memory are her daughter Kathryn ‘Kit' Salley and husband Donald of Arcadia, NC, grandson Michael Salley, of Boone, NC, son Merle A. ‘Kim' Powell Jr., and wife Rori of New Hill, NC, granddaughter, Erin Powell of Providence, RI and grandson, Sam Powell of Pittsboro, NC.

Kitty enjoyed life in Arcadia on the family farm. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. She was an excellent cook, always eager to serve a big country, non-fat-free meal to family and friends. She always took part in home demonstration projects in the 50's and 60's with her Zimmerman, Stokes, Evans and Craver friends of the community. Kitty had a great wit and sense of humor, enjoyed a good joke, and looked forward to sharing it with her friends at school. One of Merle and Kitty's greatest projects was remodeling the house in 1963, with original beams and bricks from Old Salem.

After raising the family, she worked for the Davidson County school system until her retirement in her 80's. In her spare time, she was always keeping an eye open for an antique ‘bargain' or a treasure at a yard sale. Over the years she gathered quite a collection of old TV's, radios, window fans and vacuum cleaners…some that actually worked.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mt. Olivet UMC Scholarship Fund, 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC 27295.

Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
