Lloyd was born on June 15, 1933 in Chicago, the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (McVicker) Collins. He joined the Navy and was stationed on the USS Ross (DD563) during the Korean War. He was a machine operator in the Navy and moved those skills to Cardox in Monee and Bennett Industries in Peotone before opening his own business, Peotone Machine Company which he owned and operated until his retirement. Lloyd served as a Peotone Village Trustee and chairman of the police committee. He was a local Republican Precinct Committeeman as well as representing Peotone on the Will County Board. He was a board member of the Will County Center for Community Concerns. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Peotone American Legion Post 392. He was a member of the Peotone Masonic Lodge and was formerly active in the Kiwanis.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Nadine (Groves) Collins who he married on November 9, 1955 in Monee. He is also survived by 5 children, Lloyd (Jeri) Collins Jr. of Peotone, Linda (Dick) Barten of Manhattan, Linnea (Roger) Ashley of Atlanta, GA, Leslie (Kent) Voges of Odessa, FL, and Pam McTernan of Monee; 10 grandchildren, Tucker Collins, Rachel Russell, Stacey Kosloskus, Blake Ashley, Lena Ashley, Clayton Ashley, Liesl Voges, Noelle Voges, Madeline Voges, and Charlie McTernan; 4 great-grandchildren, Deacon, Gage, Abbey and Reagan; and a brother, Richard (Judy) Collins of Crete. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Cann; and a granddaughter, Abigail Barten.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home, Pastor Zach Grell officiating. Interment will follow at Peotone Cemetery.
