Janis was the first of two daughters born to William Rufus "Buddy" Melson and Annie "Ruth" Moore Melson. She was the mother of three sons by her first marriage. Charles Allen "Chuck" was born prematurely and lived only a few hours. James Nixon and Eric William followed. She married again in 1973 and had a daughter Wendy Dianne.
Janis was an excellent seamstress and homemaker and was a Tupperware distributor for many years. She and her husband Allen Webb were heavily involved in Boy Scouts.
Janis died in a single car accident in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and was brought back to her hometown for burial.
