Mayes County Republican (Pryor, Okla.), Thursday, December 20, 1917
Mrs. George Mayes Dead.
After lingering many months with cancer Mrs. George Mayes died at her home in this city on December 18, 1917, aged sixty-four years, five months and twenty-three days.
Mrs. Susie Martin Mayes was born July 25, 1853, and was married to George W. Mayes, April 18th, 1872, to whom were born eight children, two died in infancy and six are living, Tip, Carrie, Pixie, Ned, Dick and George, known as “Boog,” all present during the last days of her sickness, and at the funeral services.
Mrs. Mayes and her husband and family are well known to all the older people of Mayes county, as practically her entire life has been spent here, and many many friends mourn with the relatives over her death.
The funeral services were held from the family residence yesterday afternoon, Rev. Leach of Vinita officiating, and the body consigned to the earth in beautiful Fairview cemetery.
