Howard R. Parsons, Sr. of Oquawka, IL., passed away at the Parkview Manor, in Wellman, IA., on June 9, 2013 at 1:40 am. He was born on June 20, 1934 in Oquawka, the son of Glenn Roy and Natrona Alsona Morris Parsons. Howard was raised in Oquawka where he attended local schools. After school Howard enlisted in the United States Army and served during peace time as a tank mechanic.
Howard was married to Marilyn J. Long on November 3, 1956 in Burlington, IA., and she preceded him on February 18, 2005. He is also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and his son Glenn.
Howard is survived by four daughters, Ethel Sells, Marla Murray, Carline Parsons, and Janet (Walter) Kemplin, all of Oquawka; three sons, Howard R Parsons, Jr and Perry Parsons, both of Oquawka and Charles J. Parsons of Chandler, AZ; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Howard began work at the Saw Mill in Burlington, IA., and then worked at Alexander Lumber Yard in Oquawka for a time. He then was a security guard at Burlginton Basket Company and then worked at the Railroad Tie Yard in Galesburg, IL. His last employment was for Chittendon Eastman Company in Burlington, IA., where he worked 14 years until his retirement in 1995.

Services: Cremation is being accorded. No visitation or funeral service is currently being planned. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, is in charge of the local arrangements.
