Rubin's parents were William Henry and Clara (Hicks) Dunaway. They were born in Alabama, moved to Parramore, Jackson County, Florida and there Rubin was born.

Parramore now is a "Ghost Town" near the bank of the Chattahoochee River in Jackson County. The community was a fairly booming enterprise at the turn of the Century, with 4 or 5 stores, post office, sawmill, gristmill, cotton gin, turnpentine stills and steamboat landings. All that remain today are The Circle Hill Baptist Churches, the old Cox School and a memorial that has been erected. Rubin's father was a Farmer in this area.

At age 18, Rubin joined the Army on April 26,1945 and served until his release on December 10,1946. Military records show he was at Camp Blanding.

On July 13, 1947, Rubin married Doris Florine Clark. Doris told me that they had to go to Georgia to marry because Florida laws said they were too young. Rubin and Doris had a total of 7 children together, all of them boys.

Doris tells me about how they raised their boys to always help out with everything that had to be done, including milking the cow whenever she couldn't get to it herself.

Rubin and Doris had their hands full with 7 boys and had a cow for milk for the children. Doris told me that one of her boys, Randall was born a "waterhead" baby and died 1 month before his 5th birthday.

Rubin lived in Jackson County all of his life. Records show his last residence was Greenwood, Jackson County, Florida.

CAUSE OF DEATH: Heart Attack

Research & bio by Juanita Clark, wife of Henry Clark, who is 1st cousin of Doris (Clark) Dunaway.
