She preferred to go by "Stella." Wife of Jasper S. Sheffield, sister of Elbert Clark. She was probably the daughter of Jim or Joe "Red" Clark and his unknown wife.
Marriage 1: William H. Dorman (August 2, 1908).
Marriage 2: Jasper S. Sheffield (September 27, 1914).

Around 1890, the Clark family was traveling into east Texas for unknown reasons. "Red" and his wife had their two young children (Elbert and Stella) with them, although all of his wife's children with her first husband had been left behind. Some of Mr. and Mrs. Clark's own children may have been left behind, as well. "Red" and his wife suddenly took ill and passed away while en route to their unknown destination. Both are buried in the Sand Flat Cemetery near Grand Saline in unmarked graves.

When Mrs. Clark's older children were contacted, they claimed that their mother and stepfather did not have any other relatives. While this probably wasn't true, it was decided that instead of sending Elbert and Stella back home, they would be taken in by families who would be able to raise them. Stella was raised by the William F. McKee family.

Her first husband, Will Dorman, died after only a few months of marriage. In 1914 she married Jasper Sheffield. They moved to Anderson County, where she remained for the rest of her life. Jasper and Stella had four children (all daughters): Belva (1917-2007), Frances (my grandma, 1921-2006), Laura (1923-2002), and Zelda (1926-1993). Stella passed away in 1939 after a long bout with cancer.

For some reason her brother, Elbert Clark, seemed to believe that he and his sister were natives of Sweetwater, TX, in Nolan County, but no one knows why he came to that conclusion. Some of their half-siblings (like their half-sister, Ada Lovell Jernigan) lived most of their lives in eastern New Mexico, so they may have been from that area, too.

Cause of death: complications resulting from breast and bone cancer.

Other children:
Laura B. (Sheffield) Brown
Belva (Sheffield) Sines Handley.
