Funeral services for Mrs. J. C. Atwood were held Thursday afternoon, May 19, from the Church of Christ in Wellington. Burial was at Quanah.
Mrs. Atwood died May 17, at 9 o'clock in the evening after an illness of several months. While her home has been at Childress for the last four years, Mrs. Atwood's death came at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Shipley, with whom she had been for some time.
Coming to Wellington in 1917, Mrs. Atwood was well known here and had many friends during the time. Before coming here she lived at Quanah.
Mrs. Atwood, nee Nova Lee Durham, was born at Mineral Wells on June 3, 1878, and at the time of her death was fifty-nine years, eleven months, and fourteen days of age.
She was married to J. C. Atwood on December 25, 1893.
For thirty-five years, she had been a devout member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by ten children, three sisters, and three brothers. The children include: Mrs. Lena Gertrude Tarrant, and Mrs. Bonnie Trapp of San Angelo, R. C. Atwood of Quanah, Oliver Atwood, John Atwood, Albert Atwood, Melvin Austin Atwood and Mrs. Esther Wheeler of Los Angeles, Miss Edna Atwood of Reedley, CA and Mrs. A. C. Shipley of Wellington.
Brothers and sisters include: Charlie Durham of New Mexico, Emmet Durham of Oregon, Sam Durham of Lost Angeles, Mrs. Ida Langford of McLean, Mrs. Edna McKnight of Hickory, OK and Mrs. Stella Benton of Lampasas.
