Joe Rodgers, Jr. was born on February 11, 1932 to the parentage of Joe Sr. and Martha Rogers in Hillsboro, Texas. He was one of seven siblings. Both parents and two siblings preceded him in death.
After graduating from Peabody High School in Hillsboro, Joe enlisted in the United States Armed Forces, where he served in both the Air Force and Army for a total of twenty three (23) years as a Staff Sergeant. He later attended Sacramento City College, Bay Area School of Preaching and Sun¬set School of Preaching. After retiring from the Military in 1975, he was later employed by the city of Sacramento in Parks and Recreations as a Program Coordinator for twelve (12) years. He retired from the city of Sacramento in 1997.
Joe was baptized at May Street Church of Christ by brother Lemmie Thomas in the early eighties. He has been worshiping with the North Metro Church of Christ since 1996, where he served as director of the education department, bible class teacher, President of the Board of Trustees and gospel preacher. Joe loved the Lord and remained faithful to the word of God until his death.
As an employee of the city of Sacramento he touched many lives, especially the young and old. He loved children. He coached all sports, especially tennis, basketball and little league football.
His famous quote "Admit it and quit it". He will be missed dearly by all of us.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Bertha; daughter, Vivian; grandson, Kedric both of Dallas, Texas, brother, Sidney Rogers, sisters; Katherine and Lois Ann all of Hillsborough, Texas, sister-in-laws: Pinkie, Hallie B, Hazel, Margaret and Eva Lee, extended families; the Ellis family, Bernard, II., LaQuensia, Bernard, III. And Osheana; the Davis family, Michael, Linda and Stafani; the Ento family, a host of other relatives and friends.
