Billie Ruth Mills Penrod Atchley Norrel Morrell was married 4 times in her life and widowed from three of them. Though she dropped out of high school, she received her GED and went on to take college courses with Eastern NM University. She also graduated from the Blackwell School of Law and became certified as an associate in paralegal studies. She was a member of Altrusa in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and was a successful businesswoman as part owner of K-Bobs Steakhouse also in Alamogordo. She worked in law enforcement for a time with the Clovis New Mexico Police Department and raised two sons who went on to work in law enforcement and investigations. She loved to do needlepoint and enjoyed the company of pet dogs most of her life. She was diagnosed with lung cancer from her many years of smoking, but passed peacefully while recuperating in a Clovis convalescent home.
