Bessie M. Frazier Lewis, age 88, a resident of the Cedar Creek community, Citronelle, AL died Sunday, June 9, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's at Citronelle Convalescent Center. A life-long member of Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren, Bessie, as she was known to everyone, loved to quilt and cook. At some point in time everyone at Cedar Creek had probably eaten one of Bessie's homemade biscuits or tea cakes. She worked at several businesses in Citronelle including Lamar Williams' Cleaners, Citmed, Meinhardt Farms and newspaper deliverer at the Call News. She is preceded in death by two husbands, William H. Gray and James A. Lewis; three sons, Shelton Frazier, Marvin and Henry Gray; one daughter, Connie Jewel Gray. She is survived by two sons, Clifton (Robin) Gray of Mobile and Willie T. (Rhonda) Gray of Citronelle; A very devoted uncle, Odell Frazier; special neighbor, whom she loved like a son, Joe Brannan; two brothers, John Frazier and Raymond Cale both of Mobile; Eight grandchildren, Lamar, Leon and Terry Frazier of Citronelle, Elaine McAdams and William Gray of Turnerville, Ashlee Redding of Citronelle, Lynn Provost of Mobile and Shannon Gray of Montgomery; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care given to our mother by the staff of Citronelle Convalescent Center. Pallbearers will be William Gray, Joe Frazier, Joe Brannan, Rob Brannan, Donnie Givens, Don Henderson, Tommy Jones, Robert Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Preaster and her Call News buddies, Jason Booth, Manley Patrick, Wade (Chip) Patrick, Charles Meinhardt. The family will receive friends 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Rev. Bob Simonsick and Rev. Dean Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Creek Church of the Brethren cemetery.
