Kate Selix's mother passed away when she was only 6 years old. Her dad died when she was 3. Kate was raised by family relatives (Etters). She married a Canadian, EJ Welsh, and ended up homesteading in southern Alberta. She and her daughter, Cecelia, ran the farm while her husband was in WW1. She bought Hudson Bay Company land and insisted it be in her name in 1918, when the male world did not like doing things that way. Belle Selix Welsh was a respected pioneer of Milk River, Alberta.
