Virgil "Pop" Flater, well known resident of South Lewis Street, died at his home at 9:50 o'clock Saturday night, after a lingering illness. He was 73 years old.

Mr. Flater was born Nov. 14, 1891, and was the son of Pleasant Stanford and Caroline (Lawhead) Flater.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Church, and was a former furniture factory employee.

Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Clara Belle Flater; three sons, Lawrence Flater, of Indianapolis, and Harry Francis and Wendle Flater, of Shelbyville; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Dowden, of Marion; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Flater was the last member of a family of six children. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Pearl Noel, of Elnora, on Oct. 7, this year.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Jenkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Wallace Owings and Rev. Elmer Patton officiated at the services, and burial was made in Grandview Cemetery.
