COVINGTON Roy Franklin, 85, of Lexington, husband of Juanita Singer Covington, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Central Baptist Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1927 in Donerail, KY in Scott County. He was the son of the late George and Hazel Wood Covington. Roy served in the U.S. Army, and he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, usher and was secretary of the Adult Sunday School Department. Roy was always a helping, compassionate person who loved being with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, loved to travel and was an avid fisherman. Besides his wife of 62 years, survivors include one daughter, Darlene (Garland) Young, Jonesborough, TN; granddaughters, Lindsay Ann Young, Jonesborough, TN, and Alicia Staggs, Winchester, KY; son-in-law, Larry Staggs, Lexington; great grandson, Connor McKinney; two brothers, Bobby (Carolyn) Covington and Charles Covington; two sisters, Mary E. Steinhauer and Susie (Roy) Redmond; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Ann Covington Staggs, and his brother, George Covington. Funeral services will be 3pm Saturday at Milward - Southland with visitation beginning at 12pm. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens with a committal service in the mausoleum chapel. www.milwardfuneral.com
