The Athol Vital Records state that he was born July 23, 1802, to Samuel and Hannah (Moore) Sweetser.
From the "National Aegis," (Worcester, MA) , 15 Oct 1845:
Yesterday morning, the body of Deacon Abel Sweetser, formerly of this town, but late of Springfield, where on Friday last, his death was occasioned by a roll of carpeting falling upon him from the upper loft of a store, as he was passing along the side walk, was brought in the passenger train for burial here.
(Note: the Springfield VR gives his age as 40 years, not as in the Rural Cemetery records above.)
