MARY JIM AYCOCK

Sept. 16, 1917 – Jan. 19, 2013

Services for Mary Jim Aycock took place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Trinity with the Rev. Russ Munch officiating. Interment followed at Trinity's Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family received friends at the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home Monday evening.

Mary Jim passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, in Atlanta. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a caring and thoughtful friend to many. She was born Sept. 16, 1917 in Walnut Springs to Nita Mingus Hill and Samuel Parr Hill and was the second oldest child of eight children. She lived in Teague and graduated from high school there. After high school, Mary Jim worked in Trinity where she met Harry Aycock of "T.J. Aycock and Son." They married in February 1941 and lived there until World War II took them to Alpine and Marfa. After World War II, they moved back to Trinity and continued to be owners of Aycock's Dept. Store.

Mary Jim and Harry Aycock had three daughters in Trinity and continued to work in their store and in many church, school and civic activities. They were members of First United Methodist Church of Trinity for 70 years. Harry Aycock died in 1996 after 55 years of marriage.

Mary Jim Aycock was director of children's Sunday School and Ministries for many years at the First United Methodist Church. She was also involved in United Methodist Women, serving in many offices, especially treasurer and also as president. She also sang in the church choir for more than 30 years. Mary Jim had also served as Trinity Schools PTA President and in many other offices. She served as treasurer of the Library Association, and was very active in the hospital auxiliary. Mary Jim Aycock had a strong belief in the Lord and walked daily in his grace and care. Her gentle and loving spirit was a comfort and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was humorous and fun, an excellent seamstress, an excellent cook, but her greatest gift was her selfless caring for others.

She is survived by her three daughters, Dianne Bryan of Atlanta, Lynn Nutt and husband Jay Nutt of Dallas, and Ann Shelly and husband Randy Shelly of Montgomery. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rachel Johnston Magee of Tyler, Rebecca Johnston Hall of Tyler, Andrew Nutt of Dallas, Jeff Nutt of Dallas, Sara Nutt Greer of Hallsville, Jennifer Avery Calvillo of Lubbock, and Ashley Avery Self of Fort Campbell, Ky. She is survived by nine great-grandchildren and her brother, William Hill of Teague.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity.
