Billie Sue (Cindy) Fletcher, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on April 13, 2013 at a local hospital after an extended illness.

Mrs. Fletcher was born on September 26, 1927, and lived in Rome her entire life. Mrs. Fletcher, or Cindy, as she was called by her friends, was preceded in death by her father Jacob Lemuel Collins (1942) and her mother Willena Jane Fernandez Collins (1954).

Cindy was born from a pioneer family of Floyd County. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Anthony Collins and Martha Miller Collins, and her maternal grandparents were the Reverend John William Fernandez and Annie Ruth Bowen Collins. William Henry (Brownie) Collins preceded Cindy in death in 1973. Cindy's sister Martha Ruth Collins Dew passed away in 1987 followed by Jake Fernandez Collins in 1994, John Anthony Collins in 1995 and Joseph Lee Collins in 2004.

Cindy is survived by nieces Virginia Sue Whale, Woodstock, GA, Willenia (Ruffles) Clemmen, Southern Pines, NC, nephew, Michael Davis Collins, Wilson, NC, and niece Peggy Elizabeth Collins, Cartersville; brother-in-law, Howard (Sara Bess) Fletcher, Gadsden, GA, and sister-in-law Mrs. Loureen Jacobs (Doug), Ft. Payne, AL, and a special adopted niece, Libba Birmingham, Cartersville. Several great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews also survive.

Cindy was married to Louis Dealess Fletcher of Crossville, AL, on November 15, 1953. Mr. Fletcher passed away in 1987. They would have been married 60 years this fall.

Cindy graduated from Rome High School, Class of 1944, and participated in many activities as well as playing basketball. She was employed by the Pepperell Manufacturing Company, Lindale, division, for most of her adult work career. She was a past member of the Upsilon Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Cindy was also active in needle arts and was a member of the Rome Chapter of the "Stitch In' and the Georgia Chapter of the Dogwood Chapter of the Embroideries Guild. Cindy gained high marks in the world of needlework when the State of Georgia entered one of her designs in the World's Fair placing third in the division. The design had been matted and framed by the Mary B Allee Gallery in Rome.

Cindy and her family were members of the First Christian Church of Rome. She was famously known for her mile high pound cake which she delivered with strawberries and crème at monthly church fellowship dinners. Often you would find her rushing to make a cake for someone's joy or sorrow. It was rare to just enjoy one piece of her delicious pound cake on a daily basis.

The family of Billie Sue Fletcher received friends at Daniel's Funeral Home on Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 3 until 5 p.m. Funeral services was held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. LeBron McBride and the Rev. Horace Stewart officiating. Interment followed in the East View Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Louie Davis, Jr., Dr. Dan Smith, Jr., Randy Michaels, Jr., Dr. Sam Rigas, Dr. Mark Fletcher, Eric Fletcher, David Ervin, Johnny Cos, Zane Blalock, Mike Gunnells, Pete Price, Michael William Collins, Christopher Collins, Baxter Clement and Jake Wolferman.

Active pallbearers were Eddie Branton, Sam Garza, Jamie Whale, Bradley Graham, David Baker, Kevin Lee, C. F. Callahan and Tom Lumpkin.
