"WELL KNOWN SPARTA MAN PASSES AWAY - Herbert L Bowen, Former Publisher of the Sentinel, Dies in Corry Hospital - Ill For Several Weeks - The wide acquaintance of Herbert L Bowen of Spartansburg will be sorry to learn of his death, which occurred at 6 o'clock last evening at the Corry hospital, where he had been a patient for the past seven weeks, following a serious operation. Although Mr Bowen had been failing in health for some time, he was able to conduct his job printing business in the borough up to the time he went to the hospital early in the fall. Mr Bowen was 60 years of age and had been a resident of Spartansburg for many years. Twenty-five years or more ago, he purchased the Spartansburg Sentinel, a weekly newspaper which was established by John H Wright, now head of the Jamestown, NY, Telephone Corporation. Mr Bowen published this paper until a few years ago when competition with the daily newspaper became so keen that he was obliged to suspend. He continued the job printing plant, however, and did much of the printing for business men and others in the Spartansburg community. Leader In IOOF Lodge - Mr Bowen was a member of the Spartansburg IOOF lodge and much interested in the work of the lodge and he frequently visited neighboring lodges, including Queen City lodge in Titusville, in all of which he enjoyed a large acquaintance and among whom he was held in high regard. He had served as justice of the peace in the borough for a number of years and was also a notary public. Mr Bowen was twice married, the second wife, formerly Miss Ida B King of Meadville, surviving with two children by the first marriage, F Dale Bowen of Detroit, Mich, and Mrs Mildred Bowen Aikens, widow of Wayne S Aikens, who passed away last Friday from diphtheria. There is also a daughter, Myra Lucille, aged two years, by the second marriage. Arrangements for the funeral services had not been completed last evening."

"FUNERALS - Herbert L Bowen - Private funeral services in memory of Herbert L Bowen will be conducted from his late residence in Spartansburg this (Wednesday) afternoon, with interment in Rose Hill cemetery."
