Harriet Pope
MATTOON — Mrs. Harriet M. Pope, 93, of 1013 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday (July 16, 1988) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev. William Pruett officiating. Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery, Arcola. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 26, 1895, near Chesterville, Douglas County, the daughter of Albert Wilson and Cynthia T. Miller Logan. She married Rev. Frank Marion Pope, April 23, 1923, in Arcola. He died in 1964 in Kerrville, Texas.
Surviving are one son, John T. Pope of Mattoon; one brother, George C. Logan of Arcola and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Pope was a country school teacher for 26 years in Douglas and Coles County. She retired in 1950.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Bethany Sunday School class of that church. She was also a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Pleiades Chapter #57, Elect Lady Chapter #40 Order of Eastern Star, Senior Citizens Club, Coles County Farm Bureau and the Chit-Chat Club.
Mrs. Pope lived in Humboldt from 1928 to 1942 when she moved to Mattoon.
