Booneville - A. J. Barker, 89, died Saturday night at his residence here after suffering a heart attack. He was a native of Owsley County, a retired farmer, schoolteacher and merchant, was a deacon of the New Hope Baptist and was a member of the New Hope Masonic Lodge No. 564, F&AM and the Odd Fellows.

Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Malvery Botner, Cullowhee, NC; Mrs. Evelyn Philpot, Canton, OH; and Mrs. Dorothy Gillingham, Louisville; two sons, Ed Barker, Sydney, O and Carl Barker, Tucson, AZ; a brother, Ruford Barker, Booneville; two sisters, Mrs. Emma McGuire, Hester Barker, Wabash, IN; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Booneville Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Williamson and the Rev. Mike Smathers. Burial will be in the Barker family cemetery. The body is at the Searcy and Strong Funeral Home.
