Born in Kankakee, IL on April 7, 1942 to LaVerne and Dorothy Mathis, Don passed away peacefully on October 6, 2007 at his home with his family around him. Don graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL and worked for Western Electric and AT&T for 25 years. After retiring from AT&T, Don established a contract instruction business.

Don was a ham radio operator, KB 5 YAM, and a former Section Manager for the ARRL's North Texas Section. Don also became a dedicated member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 59 holding staff positions at the flotilla, division, and district levels.

Don is survived by his wife, his mother, his son and daughter; a brother Dale Mathis and 2 sisters; his 2 granddaughters; and many other friends and loving family. Don was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne.
