Daughter of Adrian Van Bracklin Orr and Mary Beulah Lamb.

Ann had degrees from Bucknell College and the University of Maryland and worked as a teacher and later, as associate dean of admissions at Drexel University in Philadelphia. After retirement she moved to Colorado to be closer to family.

She was a woman of strong convictions and commitments and a lover of the arts, especially music. She was a regular presence at the Colorado Music Festival and Boulder Philharmonic concerts. Ann volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the American Friends Service Committee in Denver, taught reading to inmates at Boulder Jail, was active at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, the Shakespeare Garden club and volunteered as an ombudsman for the aged. She helped found the Boulder Women's Resource Center and was a longtime member of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. In 1988, she was awarded the Jack Gore Peace Award by the American Friends Service Committee and in 1999, she received the Elise Boulding Peacemaker of the Year award from the Rocky Mountain Center for Peace and Justice.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Deschanel and son, Caleb Deschanel; four grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
