The following (provided by Diggin for one) was published in the Crawford County Avalanche September 8 1938: Joel Fournier Succumbs Suddenly

Joel Fournier, age 57 years, passed away at his home at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, following an illness of long duration of heart and lung trouble. Mr. Fournier although he had been ailing for a long time, was very ambitious and kept at his trade of painting which he had followed for 30 years. He had been busy the last week finishing up some work at the school building, even working a short time Sunday so as to be done for the opening of school Tuesday.

Mr. Fournier was born in Bay County, August 5, 1881, and his early life was spent there. He was united in marriage in 1911 to Mrs. Violet Cardinal and they came to Grayling a couple of years later and this had since been their home.

Surviving the deceased are his widow, who at the present time is seriously ill and a patient at Mercy Hospital, two step-children Claude Cardinal, Grayling and Mrs. Cecil Boyes of Winnepeg, Ont. Also his father Joseph Fournier who has reached his 85th milestone, four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. William Weaver, Flint Mrs. Guy McTevia, Linwood Mrs. Laura Bauer, Mrs. Shirley Ammon, Saginaw Napoleon Fournier, Detroit, and Arthur Fournier, Bay City. All were here in attendance at the funeral together with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cardinal, Saginaw.

Funeral services were held at
the Grayling Funeral Home at 9:00 o'clock this morning, Rev. Fr. James Moloney officiating. Pallbearers were Conrad and Harry Sorenson, Carl Jenson, Earl Nelson, Frank LaMotte and George Bielski. The remains were laid to rest in Elmwood cemetery.

Mrs. Fournier and other members of the family have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
