Mr. Guy Hobert Clark, age 87, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Elizabeth House. Born in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Robert and Katie Staton Clark. A resident of Hendersonville for over 74 years, he owned and operated Clark Oil & Radiator Shop, which was located at 920 7th Avenue, for 19 years and retired in 1990. Prior to owning his own business, he worked at T.B. Meadows Oil Company for 16 years and Gulf Oil Corporation for 8 years. Mr. Clark was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the European Theatre of World War II in the 385th Anti-Aircraft Battalion from January, 1943 to December, 1945. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Elks Club and was a member of various civic organizations during his life. Mr. Clark attended Mud Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Clark enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating and traveling with his family and friends. He was an avid gardener and loved pickling, canning, freezing and eating his harvest. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Trudy) Laughter Clark, a son, Alan B. Clark and wife Cathi, of Raleigh, NC, a daughter Sandra C. Rhoades and husband Floyd, of Indian Wells, CA, three grandchildren, Jessica Clark, Sean Clark and Rebecca Clark Rhoades. Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Church Street Chapel of Thos. Shepherd & Son with Rev. Dr. Greg T. Mathis of Mud Creek Baptist Church and Rev. Lester Vier of 1st Congregational Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Thos. Shepherd & Son and will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. The family will be hosting a reception immediately following the funeral service at the residence, 305 Balsam Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Dr, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731
